400 Kms south of Sao Paulo, Curitiba is the capital of the state of Parana.
Located also on a hilly plateau, at an altitude of 950m and aprox. 100Kms from the ocean, Curitiba is the model industrial city of Brazil.
Many top automotive manufacturers have installed their new, state of the art factories there.
Again, there are not many attractions in the city visited mainly by the business traveler, except for the excellent restaurants, but the ocean is not far, just an hour and a half drive to the picturesque port of Paranagua.
But if you have some extra time, you should take the touristic train, the Serra Verde Express to Morretes and Paranagua. The railroad was built in 1880 during the reign of Pedro II, emperor of Brazil, and will take you to Morretes on week days, and all the way to Paranagua on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.
There is also the "Litorina" tramway which operates on these days down the beautiful jungle covered mountains to Morretes.
Another interesting promenade is a short trip to the Vila Velha national park, only 80 Kms West of Curitiba, where you will see several very peculiar rock formations.
